Light emerald moth. Adults may often be disturbed from rest where they sit on the underside of tree and shrub leaves. The larvae can be seen from mid-August to the following May or June, spending the winter lying flat against the stems of the foodplant. Colour ranges between light emerald and white.

Meadow brown, Maniola jurtina. One of our commonest butterflies often seen throughout the summer months near grasslands. A highly variable species, particularly with respect to the amount of orange on the forewings and the number of black spots on the underside of the hindwings. Adults will fly in dull weather when most other butterflies are inactive.

Part of the geranium family, The leaves are deeply divided into 7-9 lobes and 3-6 inch wide and the flowers are pale blue, although getting paler into the centre.
